Slugs and Forgetfulness

Here are two new pieces I just completed. I figured that it might be a good idea to make some new work to sell that is smaller and more affordable for most people. I get a pretty good amount of inquiries about art purchases, but sometimes those fall through because the art is not quite in the persons price range. Instead of drastically lowering my prices on existing works for sale, I made some small pieces that are appropriately priced for their size and intricacy. Actually, I think they're a pretty great deal :)

"Powers of the Great Sea Slug"
India ink and watercolor on cream colored paper
6" x 8"
2011
$75 plus shipping

"You Will Remember Nothing"
India ink on cream colored paper
4" x 4"
2011
$50 plus shipping

Email me if you're interested! And keep checking back. I have tons more new work to come!

Upcoming group show in Los Angeles

Hey everyone,

just wanted to give you a heads up about a group show in LA at the beginning of March. February is so short, it will probably be here before you know it, thus the reason I am posting this now before I forget.

It's the La Luz de Jesus Gallery annual "Everything But the Kitschen Sync" show. This is my third year participating in it. According to the website, there were over 8,000 people who submitted their art for the show, and only 123 were chosen. That's just crazy...

Under Water

This past friday there was a big mess that occurred in my home studio. I noticed water pooling under my desk near the wall where the molding was. It was creeping up over the carpet quickly and it was at that point I freaked out. I grabbed the scanner which was on the ground, inches from the water, grabbed the laptop and started to grab every framed piece of artwork that was on the floor. Then I noticed about 3 1/2 feet up from where the leak on the ground was, the drywall was starting to bulge. It was at that point that a hole about 2" in diameter suddenly appeared in the wall and freezing cold water started gushing in like a fire hydrant. I'm sure it looked like a cartoonish situation, with me trying to block the hole with my body, a natural instinct I think when something like that suddenly happens. Needless to say, the water got shut off eventually and I finally surveyed the damage. Luckily, the computer and artwork were pretty much ok since I grabbed those before the wall exploded. The carpet absorbed about 20 gallons of water and currently has huge fans blowing air underneath it to dry it out. The wet portion of wall had to be cut out, and the pipe still needs to be fixed. Ugh. What a huge mess. The water in the pipe froze in the first place because the pipe was installed in the wall, OUTSIDE of the insulation where it was susceptible to our harsh cold Michigan weather. All my business cards and zines got ruined, along with many piles of papers I had on the desk. If you think about it though, it could have been MUCH worse, so I am grateful it wasn't.

"A Very Bad Feeling" - SOLD

It's a very good feeling having sold "A Very Bad Feeling". Ok, so that was cheesy, but hey, I had to go there. Guess I will be making a postal run this weekend.

By the way, when I went to the art supply store this past weekend, I got some more artist tape. Geez, is it just me or is that stuff kinda pricey, for being tape I mean? Good thing I only go through a roll like every two years.

"Thievery in the Woods" is now a print!

Just released this work as a print over at Society6. Check it out!
The original work is available for purchase as well.

No broken glass

I spent today packaging up some artwork that needs to get shipped off soon. I was cutting plexi glass too, which I have to say is not the most fun activity. It's pretty rough on your hands. However, it's better to be safe than sorry as I have learned in terms of shipping stuff across the country. Too many bad experiences with broken glass to risk it.

Things worked out

So lets see.....what have I been working on lately...

I spent part of this weekend working on a tattoo design for someone. It was pretty straight-forward. Who knows, maybe I will do some more in the future if people ask me.

Also worked out some sketches for three pieces I am doing for a NY show the art collective I am part of is putting together.

I also found out recently that my work got accepted to be the La Luz de Jesus Gallery, "Everything But the Kitsch 'N Sync" show. Third year in a row, which is kinda fun. Last year I sold a piece, so I'm hoping my luck will extend to this year as well.

Also, some more good news. I wrote a while back about a show in Portland that I was supposed to be in. The show fell through, and I was a bit sad because I had created work for it. However, now it has been rescheduled and it's supposed to be in April. So things worked out okay after all. I am going to use some of the work I previously created, as well as create a new piece for it.

This evening I am going to format some more artwork files to upload onto Society6 to sell as prints.

Ideas are buzzing...

Lately I have been trying to think of some good ideas for some more promo illustrations I can do to put on my website for when I redesign/relaunch it. I think I have a pretty good list at the moment, and now I just need to DO them. Got some other projects and deadlines coming up soon, so I don't know exactly when I will accomplish this, but starting this weekend wouldn't hurt. Keep you posted...
