Photos?
The Blab show opening was last night, and I was of course absent. I sure hope I can dig up some photos somewhere on the internet to see how it was...

In transit...
I mailed off two more pieces of art yesterday. One is going to NY for the show at Sacred Gallery (Blood, Sweat and Fears show - in a few weeks) and the other is going to Lunar Boy Gallery in Astoria, Oregon (Day of the Dead show).
It was kinda pricey sending the NY piece. But I had them package it up, and that added a lot to the cost. I couldn't do it myself, and when there's that much glass at risk of being shattered, it's enough to scare me into paying extra. Nothing makes you hate the world (and the postal system) like hearing that the artwork you sent to some gallery got damaged in transit.
Why risk it?
Anyway, now I am starting the last piece for a show in Portland.

BLAB! show 2010
Santa Muerte Music & Arts Festival!

I made a new piece just for this show. Such a great mix of artists here! I'm very happy to be part of this!
ART: Twenty world-renowned artists from Scotland, Italy, Canada, and across the U.S. converge on Tucson at Sacred Machine. Participating artists work has appeared in and been commissioned by The New York Times, Juxtapoz Magazine, Hi-Fructose Magazine, Time Magazine, The Washington Post, LA Times, the Academy Award winning movie 'Traffic' by Steven Soderbergh, on multi-platinum album covers, illustrated children's books, published monographs, and advertising for clients such as Sony and Toyota. "These artists are so multi-talented that some even play in rock bands and create videos. With their work they have imbued apocalyptic prophecies, shaken the norms of conventional iconography and written books, museums and collectors such as Madonna acquire their work, they exhibit their art across the globe, some self-taught, some professors, some outsiders, but one thing is certain, the group as a whole has influenced, and is seriously rocking the art world." Paula Catherine Valencia, Curator of Sacred Machine.

September is finally here
After what seemed to be a very long summer, September is finally here. It's strange because it's still really hot outside, and yet the leaves are already changing color. Can't wait until I can wear a sweater and scarf.
I've been busy getting ready for some shows (still, I know). But I just finished a drawing yesterday that will be the final piece of a group of works going to Seattle for a show in November. Still need to get some stuff framed, but the work itself for that particular show is complete.
(see sneak peek detail shot below)
Now I have to work on a piece for another show at Lunar Boy Gallery in Astoria, OR. It's for their Day of the Dead show.
Also need to do one last piece for A November Portland show. It will be the 4th and final work for that grouping and will be the biggest sized work of the 4.
I recently mailed out some work to Pony Club Gallery (show next month) and Sacred Gallery (show also next month). More on those shows later.
Also need to mail out my piece for Horrorwood show this month. It will be going to WWA gallery in Culver City.
After I finish these two pieces for upcoming shows, I may just have some time to do some experimentation and personal projects. I hope :)

"Show" time
Right now I am working on artwork for a bunch of different shows (two in Portland, one in Seattle). A few of them are medium sized pieces so I expect they will take a bit longer to do than usual 8x10"-11x14" sized works I am accustomed to.
I just finished an illustration for Baltimore magazine (whom I have worked with on 3 previous occasions). It will be featured in the October issue, which is great since the editorial piece allowed me to draw some slightly spooky content. I'll post pics when it hits shelves.
So much stuff coming up this fall, which I will be sharing with you all in the next couple months.
Until then!

Book By its Cover
There's a entry about my sketchbooks over at the website "Book By Its Cover," a lovely little site run by Julia Rothman (a Brooklyn based illustrator and pattern designer). I took a lot of photos of 3 different sketch books of mine to share with fans of the site. There's some great sketchbook entries on artists like Will Bryant, Mia Christopher, Martha Rich, Calef Brown, Meg Hunt, Lauren Nassef, Katy Horan, Matt Leines, Camilla Engman, Luke Ramsey, Jen Corace and (my fellow MICA alum) Deanna Staffo.

Proxart
Recently, the nice people over at Proxart asked me if I would be interested in answering a few questions about myself and my art. Check it out! The website is pretty funny if you read the mission statement. I can relate to it so much, living in the suburbs.

"Menagerie"
"Menagerie" opens tonight at Errata Gallery in Portland Oregon! I am part of this group show, contributing one piece. Wish I could be there to attend, but I'll just have to live vicariously through pictures for the time being :(

Back to business

Things have been busy for me lately. After a 5-day span of being sick with a summer cold and thus totally useless at my work table, I'm back on track now doing some things for upcoming shows. I've got 11 shows I'm participating in from now up till December. After that, who knows.....but right now this is plenty to keep me occupied.
I just mailed some stuff off to Istanbul and Barcelona this week. More on that later.
Next I'm working on a piece for a show in Tucson in September and then need to do 2 more pieces for a fall Portland show, and one 1 piece for a fall Seattle show.
Today I made some more prints available to purchase through Society6. Check em out! Or better yet, snap one up!

"The New Twenties"
"Mail Me Art: Medium Without a Message" Show
Hey everyone,
here are some pictures from the "Mail Me Art" show reception that took place last night in London at Red Gate Gallery. The project is the creation of Darren Di Lieto, the founder of the illustration website Little Chimp Society. Artists from all over were invited to send in artwork done on envelopes, boxes, postcard-sized pieces of paper etc to be compiled into an exhibition. There are over 700 pieces of art for sale! A book will also be made from a selection of some of the artwork. I was really excited to be part of this with so many great illustrators and artists!
The pictures below are from talented illustrator and graphic designer Thereza Rowe, who was lucky enough to attend the show.
My contribution is in the fourth picture down (black postcard right in the middle).
