Postcards From the Edge is a Visual AIDS benefit show and sale of original, postcard-sized works on paper by established and emerging artists. All works are sold on a first-come, first-served basis. The works are signed on the back and exhibited so the artists' signatures cannot be seen. While buyers receive a list of all participating artists, they don't know who created which piece until purchased. All proceeds support the programs of Visual AIDS.

Visual AIDS utilizes art to fight AIDS by provoking dialogue, supporting HIV+ artists, and preserving the legacy -- because AIDS IS NOT OVER!

A few new things

Hello,

I hope everyone enjoyed a great holiday. I just wanted to post a few things I've done recently. These two watercolors were created as presents for my parents. One is a landscape from a photo I took in Vermont on Lake Champlain. The other is a bird painting I did using a reference photo I took of a taxidermic bird at a nature preserve. I wasn't as happy with the landscape, so that prompted me to do the bird painting. Watercolor is still not my forte.

Mouse and Duck INKED

Interesting........someone got a tattoo of my work. These two images are obviously based on some disney characters I drew for a zine a while back. Crazy. I'm not brave enough to get a tattoo, simply because I get bored with things easily (especially my own work), but hopefully this person enjoys these.

Melancholia - A graphzine

I was invited to be part of this zine by Albert Foolmoon in France. It's a beautifully screen printed book with some stellar artists. I was happy to see a piece in there by Katrin Berge (from Norway) whose work I really enjoy. The book is 16 pages and 21.5cm x 30.5cm. 56 hand-bound issues were produced. Have a look.

Pet Portraits

I made these pet portraits as a present for my aunt. They are of her two dogs and two cats. Drawn entirely in charcoal (vine, compressed and pencil form). It's probably a style people are not used to seeing from me, but it can be interesting to do something different once in a while and challenge yourself. Drawing animals realistically is definitely not my favorite thing, but it's fun to give people something they will love and appreciate. Each portrait is about 5"x7" using reference photos I took. Black-haired animals can be tricky, but I'm pretty happy with the result.

Back from Baltimore

I'm back from my trip and had a great time. Did a little ice skating and a lot cookie eating/movie watching/socializing. It was awesome :)

Christmas is almost here, and I would like to get a bit of work done before then, so I better get to it.

Off to B-more

Well, I'm off to Baltimore today for a lengthy visit with friends. Perhaps I will update while I am there if anything of interest comes up. Hopefully the airport will be smooth sailing. Until then....

Exquisite Corpse

Hey folks,

Check this out! It's an exquisite corpse, one of my favorite artist collaboration methods. It's on the website of C. Mark Burt, a talented artist I happen to know of via the good old world wide web. I contributed a few parts to the result. Neat to see it all together.

Early December update

I've been pretty busy with personal projects lately. This holiday season always seems to go so fast, and yet requires so much time and effort. I've been doing a lot of art lately for people as gifts, and that has been mostly what I've been up to. I even made my own holiday cards this year. I will post pics of all that after Christmas. I'm also leaving on a trip at the end of this week, so I have a lot to accomplish before then. So far I'm pretty on track. I have one drawing for a book project that I would like to finish before I go, as well as a bunch of data backup that I should really do, in light of my recent computer hard drive problems. Eek.

Hope everyone is looking forward to the holidays :)

Introducing.......The MAMMOTH Collection!

I was recently asked to be part of a new website called The Mammoth Collection. It is a website that offers large editions of artist prints by established and emerging visual artists. It also features artist interviews and news related to its members. I just browsed the website last night and was impressed with all the talent Ben and Troy (the creators) have been able to recruit. I'm very pleased to be part of it and to witness the evolution of the site over time. Should be good!

These are the two prints of my work currently on the site:

2 shirts left!

Hey everyone,

Just thought I'd throw this out there. I have two of these shirts left for purchase. I created the design for this shirt back in 2009 for the band Unholy. They were made in limited quantity and I was given some. I have these two extra. One is an XL and one is a medium. They're 100% cotton and screenprinted. Pretty durable too, not a super lightweight kind of t-shirt. I'm selling these each for $15 flat.

If you want one, please email me: jon@jonmacnair.com

The name of the band is on the back.

I was not able to attend the opening of this show I participated in at Flatcolor gallery, but here are some pictures taken by the gallery.

The show ends November 28th.
