3 Questions with me on HARD FEELINGS blog

Dylan over at the blog 'Hard Feelings' asked me if I wanted to be featured on his blog with their 3 questions segments they do every week. I said sure and he sent me the Qs. I've pasted them below along with my answers, but be sure to check out the blog too. It's really awesome and frequently visited by me.

Q: Is there a medium you’ve yet to work with that you’d like to pursue?

A: I often think about trying oil painting. I guess that doesn’t really count because I’ve done it before. However, I’ve never done it WELL…so I’d like to try and conquer that some day. Another thing is wood carving. Never done it, but it seems like it would be a refreshing change to make something 3D and use a bunch of tools that are new to me.

Q: You obvious interest in mythology + mysticism suggest that you listen to prog rock + read Tolkien. True or false?

A: Haha…false. I grew up in a home where we were exposed to a lot of classical music and not a whole lot of rock. My parents were trained classical musicians (my dad played the violin and my mom played the harp) and me and my brother and sister all played instruments. I played the cello. I didn’t really start to listen to other kinds of music until high school and really branch out until college. I’ve got a pretty diverse collection of music now, but I don’t have any progressive rock in there. Maybe one day. As for Tolkien, I’ve never read anything by him. I’ve thought about it, but it’s usually kinda hard for me to get through books with lots of detailed back story and histories, etc. I tend to go for collections of short stories.

Q: Do you ever feel held back by the characters that reoccur in your work or do they help you to craft a larger story line?

A: I wouldn’t say I feel hindered by them, but I try to avoid overusing the same characters in my work. I don’t want to feel like I’m making the exact same thing over and over. I think you have to have a sense of when to “retire” an idea so you can keep things fresh and allow yourself to make creative progress in your work.

Long list.....

It's been about 8 days since my last post, which is a pretty long time for me to go without writing something, but it's been a busy few weeks. This month I got a large wave of projects and opportunities for shows that kind of swept me into the sea, and now I'm treading water to try and do my best to take advantage of all of them. I realized I have a slight problem saying no to opportunity, because I know something good could come of it. While it's good to be busy and have things to work toward, a certain stress level comes along with that. Still trying to figure out the best way to manage that. I'm no expert at that by any means. However, I know it will all get done and there's no better feeling than accomplishing goals.

I keep interrupting projects I am working on to tackle projects that have come up and have deadlines approaching sooner. It's kind of chaotic.

Currently, I have seven shows to prepare for. Two in Portland (OR), one in Astoria (OR), one in Mexico, one in NYC, one in Seattle, and one in Santa Monica (CA). This number could possibly increase to nine shows soon. All these are group shows by the way up through November. Haha. If there were any solo shows in there that would be a bit too crazy.

Also have some publications I did some art for that should be coming out in the not too distant future. A few from the UK.

Earlier this month I finished working on some artwork for a record album cover. Never done something for vinyl before. Pretty exciting. I'm really pleased with the way the art turned out. Can't wait to see it printed.

In addition to preparing for the shows, I'm currently working on a cd cover and insert for a band. That's first on the list currently.

Also have an animation project and mural project in the works. More on that later.

A lot of this stuff is kind of under wraps at this point, so I haven't been posting a ton on my flickr page, but know that art is being made.
My hi-tech system of keeping track of projects and due dates :)

Beautiful Decay: Book 3 Now OUT!

Just wanted to let everyone know that the new issue of Beautiful Decay is out and I was lucky enough to be part of it! The issue is Book 3 in their book series format. It's really nicely printed with a thick cover and semi-glossy pages inside. It's like a soft cover book essentially, but with a sort of faux dust jacket. In short, there's some great art inside done by some fantastically talented people (over 100 works featured). Grab one before they're gone (limited supply!). Here are some pictures I snapped:

Pictures of The Stranger

I know this happened a while ago, but I just got my copies of The Stranger that I had a cover image on back in February. Just I thought I'd post a few pics. Thanks to my sister in Seattle for grabbing me some copies!
