Plywerk!
I was approached by the Plywerk company through email after they saw some of my work at Tribute Gallery in Portland Oregon, where the company is based. Plywerk does photo mounting on wooden panels, using bamboo and maple plywood. The materials are "green" and manufactured using environmentally sustainable practices. Nice!
They offered me a free 5" x 5" panel of my choice, blank or with an uploaded image. I took them up on the offer and got this printed. The quality is excellent and very finished looking, ready to hang on a wall! I would recommend them to anyone wanting to have photographs or artwork professionally mounted on wood panels. Also, they're friendly, which is always a plus!
Oh, and if you're an artist, you get a discount! Another plus!
Thanks Plywerk!

Maguila 14
I have a bunch of work in issue 14 of Maguila, a PDF arts magazine based in Sao Paulo Brazil.
You can download the issue HERE and check it out!
4 previously unseen works
"Bespeckled Creature with Feelers"
These are some pieces I had done for "New Faces" at Recoat Gallery in Glasgow (currently on display). I kept these 4 under wraps until the show opened and am posting them on here now for you to see. I've included detail shots so you can see the line work better. The other 4 pieces I sent them have already been posted on my flickr page.

One crazy month
Picture of framed pieces for "New Faces" at Recoat Gallery. Taken right before packing up and shipping out.
It's been a pretty crazy month so far. Next month will have a lot of stuff happening too. Three shows opened this month for me (Recoat Gallery's "New Faces", Tribute Gallery's "Play For Keeps" and the annual art benefit "Postcards From the Edge"). I also completed and sent out work for two shows (WWA Gallery's "The Devil Made Me Do It" and Launch Pad Gallery's "LOVE" show - both of which will be opening middle of next month). I just finished my piece for "The Portland Project" on Society6.com and uploaded it today. They are going to be printing the prints and having a show of them in Portland in March. Also sold one drawing to a friend, did 3 zine submissions, an interview and finally got postcards made.
I had some snags in sending my work to Scotland for the "New Faces" show at Recoat Gallery, which presented a somewhat stressful situation, although it ended up okay. I had to order frames for the work online because 1.) I wanted a discount price to save money. and 2.) I wanted to get frames that did not have glass fronts in them to reduce the risk of damage on the way to the show. I had previously had problems with broken glass with a show I did in San Francisco this past summer where one work got damaged, and I didn't want this repeated. So I ordered the frames, but should have left more time for this as it took a little longer for them to deliver than I expected. The day I got the frames I packaged up all the artwork immediately and sent it off the next day. There were 2 boxes (one of 3 large works and one of 5 small works). The price of shipping was astounding to me. I could do 2-4 day delivery, which would have gotten it there in plenty of time, but the cost was TWICE as much as the 6-10 day. 6-10 would get it there just in time for the day they wanted to hang it, and as that was more affordable (yet still expensive) I opted for the 6-10. Only problem with this was there was no tracking option for the 6-10. If I wanted tracking I had to do the 2-4 day massively expensive option. Well, the 15th passed, the day I had wanted the work to be there, and still nothing. The 20th came and I finally heard that ONE box had arrived. The gallery said it had been held in customs and they had to pay to receive it. No sign of the other box. Keep in mind the show is set to open in 2 days. The next day nothing arrives. Finally, the day of the show, the gallery gets word that the other box just arrived at the post office, where they rush to get it. The work goes up on the walls hours before the reception, and the rest is history. During the whole thing, I kept going back and forth at feeling angry at UPS, customs, and myself, not really knowing who to place blame on, but it all worked out in the end, so I guess it doesn't really matter. I'm really learning some lessons from these types of things though.
When I come across some pictures from the opening, I'll post them on here.

New Interview with me on "Party Like An Art Star"
Recently I was asked to do an interview by Chloe Gallagher, a curator in Oregon who I have worked with on two occasions, one being the current show in Portland (Play For Keeps). The interview was written for her blog "Party Like an Art Star." Check it out!

Feeling tired but accomplished today. I just got back from the post office where I had to mail a package to California. It's some artwork for "The Devil Made Me Do It", a show in Culver City at WWA Gallery. I had a lot of stuff going on this past month and thus far this month too, but I managed to make a piece for the show, and I feel happy with what I created. Another red check goes on the to-do list.
A few days ago I did these two drawings for Pragazine. The theme was "plagiarism" and this is what I came up with. If you look closely at the time and care I put into these two drawings, you will really see that I love Disney, as opposed to what your initial assumption might be.
Also did this sketchbook drawing for a zine called "Smile You're Not Dead"

12 hour drawing day
Spent all of today working on a piece for a show in California. I took a brief dinner break to eat 3 tacos and then it was back to work. Also, talked on the phone, which I can luckily do while drawing. Really tired now and kinda sore from sitting in the chair all day. I wish it was a bit less snowy outside because I could have gone for a walk to stretch my legs. Oh well. It's melting slowly. Tomorrow I will finish up the drawing, scan it, and package it to ship. Hopefully.....

"New Faces" @ Recoat Gallery in Glasgow
Hey everyone!
You've probably heard me mention this in previous entries, but I will be showing work in a gallery in Scotland this month. Very excited! Recoat Gallery in Glasgow in proud to present "New Faces", a show that centers around character design.
Opening reception is on the 22nd of Jan 2010, 7-10pm
I have sent them 8 pieces for display. 4 of them are relatively new and have been posted on my flickr page, and 4 are totally new and have not been seen by anyone (2 are in color and one is fairly large (for me) and detailed).
Just got the flier from them today. Here it is!
