I'm back from Baltimore now and getting back into work mode this week. I have my work cut out for me. During my trip, I even managed to get some art done (I didn't want to feel like a total slacker :)

There's a lot happening in the next few weeks, so I will keep you all tuned in for that.

Until then.....happy drawing :)

"Force Fields" show opens soon!

Mark your calendars people! This show opens in two days in Santa Monica! One night only!

Boxed up and ready to go

Hey all,

So I went to the UPS store today (a place I am very familiar with at this point) and mailed the work I created for the Rituals group show this summer in NY. I'm sending it off a little bit early because I will be taking a little trip this week and don't want to have to rush deliver it when I get back. I think the pieces look good in the frames. I'm curious how it will all be displayed. I have an idea in my head, but I know the gallery might have ideas of their own. Either way, I'm excited. Above is a teaser pic of the works for the show. And below is a rather boring picture of the box all taped up.
ready to go!

I really have my work cut out for me this summer in terms of projects. No lack of things to do here. Looking forward to a little break this coming week and some fun and relaxation :)

more to come......stay tuned.....

here is the address: 2213-2217 14th street NW (the corner of 14th and W NW)

and the hours:
Tuesday, Wednesday,Thursdays and Friday: 7pm – Midnight
Saturdays: 12pm – 2am
Sundays: 12pm – 6pm
Mondays: Closed

2.) "Force Fields" is coming up! It's an art show I am involved in to help raise money to fight malaria in Africa. It will be for one night only, so if you live in Santa Monica, check it out! Here is some more info: http://forcefields2011.blogspot.com/
I am currently trying to finish up some personal commissions. They've been pretty challenging because they are not the type of thing I usually do, and haven't exactly been fun, but I am on schedule. I'll post pictures next month.

Also, I received Santiago's sketchbook. We are collaborating by trading books. Check out his awesome work here if you have a chance! http://www.flickr.com/photos/suceda/

I will be taking some time off soon and flying to MD for a little rest and relaxation. I'm going to take the sketchbook with me and hopefully do some drawing in it.

that's all for now folks :)

Sneak Peek of "Reawakening of the Long-Departed"

I just remembered that I wanted to post this picture of one of the drawings I completed recently for the show at Causey Contemporary (this July).

Here is the picture I previously posted of it while it was in the pencil stage.

Here's a detail shot of the completed section.

Big to small

The past few days have been spent working on this new drawing for a show in July. It was great working on this small piece after spending so much time working on some large, detailed drawings. I started it Thursday evening and finished it Friday evening. I also painted this frame the other day. I had a bit of a hard time deciding what color to go with, so I actually painted it a few times and then varnished it.

I took a trip to the post office the other day to mail my sketchbook off for a sketchbook collaboration I'm doing with Santiago Uceda. This is the first round of the trade, so I look forward to seeing what he can do with my random scribblings, and I can't wait to receive his sketchbook.

Under the Gun

Hey everyone,

just wanted to tell you all about a small show I am in coming up very soon. It's called "Under the Gun" and it's happening at Articulated Gallery on June 4th in San Francisco. As you may have guessed from the title, it's a bit of a last minute show, but don't let that deter you from seeing it! I have 2 small pieces in it (they're oldies but goodies).

they can be purchased HERE!

"Final Voyage of the Elders" sneak peek

Hey all,

Well, I have finally completed all three of the drawings I will be showing at Causey Contemporary this summer in Brooklyn, NY. I know, three drawings doesn't sound like a whole lot, or not enough to make completing them all sound like a huge accomplishment, but it took a long time. I think it was because I kept getting sidetracked with other shows and freelance assignments that popped up. They are all 18" x 24", and if you're familiar with my work, you know that's pretty big for me. Well, pretty labor intensive anyway with all the detail work I tend to do. I spent this morning finishing up the third and final drawing, and then the rest of the day scanning the works. That was quite a job in itself. I need to get frames and stuff real soon because I will be taking some trips this summer and need to ship stuff early because of that. I have 4 drawings I need to do in the next 3 weeks. That sounds completely doable seeing it written here, but again, it's detailed stuff that will be time consuming. But I gotta do it, so failure is not an option.

here's a small preview of a section of the drawing I just completed. I can't wait to show you all the finished works. That'll happen in about a month, so stay tuned.

A "mystical" print!

Just a reminder that "Some Sort of Mystical Explanation" is now available as a print in my Society6 store. I'm taking the time to write about this one in particular because I've had a fair amount of people request it. It's an older piece but I think it's a pretty important one in that it was sort of a turning point in this particular style and body of work.

detail shots below
Get the print HERE!

"Procession of Hunters and Scavengers" sneak peek

Here is a sneak peek of my most recently completed drawing for the "Rituals" group show at Causey Contemporary this summer in Brooklyn, NY. Working on the third and final drawing for the show right now. Enjoy :)
My hand is in there to show scale. This is just a tiny detail of the drawing, which measures 18" x 24".

Late spring update

Just wanted to give a little update as to what has been going on lately. Let's see, well I just finished two editorial illustrations this week for a literary journal called Annalemma. It's a nicely put-together biannual based in California. I'm excited to see how it turns out because there are some great illustrators in this upcoming issue and I'm anxious to see what they did for it.

The G40 art summit event is going on right now. It started thursday. I'm participating in it through an invite via Art Whino. I've got 11 pieces in the show, mostly small older works.

I'm also currently in a show at Sacred Machine Gallery called "Beyond the Sacred". That will run until July 31st. It includes the usual roster of great artists that participate in the shows there. So if you live in Tucson you should stop by.

I still have one 18" x 24" drawing to do for the "Rituals" show that is happening this summer in NYC through my art collective. It will be at Causey Contemporary Gallery in Brooklyn in mid-July. I've done 2 out of 3 of the drawings, and I have to admit they've taken a bit longer to do than expected. That's probably because I ended up making them more detailed than I planned. Eh....what else is new? So I should try to finish that up in this next week if I can.

After that, I have some personal commissions to do and some collaborative projects.

Oh, and I almost forgot to mention that there is an album coming out at the end of next month that I did the cover art for. It's coming out on vinyl. The band is Harm's Way and the album is called "Isolation". I'll definitely post pictures when I get my hands on it.

That's all for now folks :)

above are the 2 works going to Articulated Gallery in San Francisco.

G40 show by Art Whino!

I'm happy to announce I am participating in this massive group show hosted by Art Whino. I have 11 works (mostly small) that are part of the artist showcase, where artists can display works of their choosing free of any specific themes.

Art Whino returns in 2011 for the second edition of G40. The first G40 art summit in 2010 compounded artistically explosive cultures from all over the world and brought them to the DC metro area. By bringing all of these cultures from throughout the world to one place it allowed the visitor to be fully immersed in over 2000 works by 500 artists organized by floors corresponding to their cultural hubs.

This year G40 explores not cultures but the genres which are on the forefront of creative transitions and growing in large scale with hundreds of thousands of fans throughout the world. Some of these genres include Customized collectibles, Skateboard Art, Stencil, Wheat Paste and 3D Installations.

The G40 Art Summit is a unprecedented experience in the art world with its scale and caliber of artists from around the world. This year the summit comes to the city next to the U street corridor taking over an entire 25,000 sqft building and showcasing art on all of it 4 floors. From over twenty artists showcasing 16’ Murals to traditionally displayed artwork the summit will definitely have sensory overload requiring multiple trips to take in all the treats for the eyes.

Curious Collection No. 1 & 2 NOW PRINTS!

Hey everyone!

Hope you are all getting into spring and leaving the winter weather behind. It takes a little longer here in Michigan, so I'm sure many of you are past that now.

Just wanted to let you all know that Curious Collection No. 1 & 2 are now available for purchase as prints in my Society6 shop HERE!

Curious Collection No. 1 (original SOLD)

Curious Collection No. 2 (original SOLD)

Curious Collection No. 1 I did last summer, and it got shipped to Barcelona for a show, but never made it there (customs issues). Anyway, a nice person bought it and I'm sure they will enjoy it for many years. I got a good amount of positive feedback on the piece from flickr members, so I decided to make another one, hence Curious Collection No. 2. It was really enjoyable to do because I could think of how I wanted to fill the space with various objects and creatures. Someone in my state of MI recently bought Curious Collection No. 2, which I was thrilled about. For some reason I rarely make sales in MI.

Curious Collection No. 3 is probably going to be coming in the not so distant future, so keep an eye out :)
